FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Despite recording a season-high team score in a tri-meet with Baylor University and Alderson Broaddus University, the Falcons dropped both meets on Friday evening to end the 2015 regular season. The Falcons recorded a score of 266.630 in the tri-meet, which surpasses their previous high of 264.810 in the season-opener against Gannon.
Prior to Friday's meet, the Falcons honored four seniors that were performing their final regular season meet at Joe Retton Arena, including
Jenn Clymer,
Danielle DiCarlo,
Angela Viscount and
Allison Rogers.
The three teams were within four points of each other at the half, with Baylor holding the early lead at 98.15. ABU edged out Fairmont by less than a point in the opening half, 97.15-96.40, after recording a 9.0 or better in each of the first 10 heats. Baylor recorded two perfect scores in the first half and had six scores of 9.90 or higher in the first three events. The Falcons had four scores of 9.80 or high in the first three events.
The meet remained close following the toss event with each team within four points of each other with just two events remaining. However, Baylor gained some breathing room in the tumbling event with a score of 57.80 out of a possible 59.90. ABU scored a 51.80 in tumbling while FSU was edged out with a score of 51.28.
The Falcons recorded their second-highest score of the year in the team routine with a 92.15 in their final performance of the evening. Baylor won the team rountine with a score of 99.64 and Alderson Broaddus recorded a score of 93.77 in the team event. Baylor finished the evening with a score of 284.240 while ABU recorded a 270.320 to go 1-1 in the tri-meet.
Fairmont State will now be idle until the 2015 NCATA National Championships that will be hosted by Fairmont State University from April 23-25 at Joe Retton Arena. Visit fightingfalcons.com as information about the National Championship event will be released in the coming weeks.
