FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Fairmont State used nearly a two-point advantage in the tumbling event (52.100-50.250) to regain the lead and edged Alderson Broaddus, 266.260-262.250, following an impressive performance in the team routine on Wednesday evening at Joe Retton Arena.
The win allowed Fairmont State to improve to 2-0 on the season. ABU falls to 0-3 on the year.
Fairmont State was victorious in the first two events of the evening to take an early advantage. FSU won the compulsory event by a score of 37.25-36.80, and then added to its lead by narrowly edging the Battles 29.85-29.50 in the acro event. Fairmont State recorded a perfect score in two heats early in the meet, including compulsory toss and the five-element acro.
ABU held nearly a two-point advantage in the pyramid event and grabbed a 1.10 advantage at halftime (95.45-94.35). Both teams were impressive in the toss event, with ABU taking its second event of the day by a narrow margin of 26.60-26.55.
Fairmont State regained its lead in the tumbling event by winning five of the six heats, which included a team-high score of 9.475 by
Karah Naples in the tumbling open pass. Freshman
Caitlyn Faint also turned in a score of 9.075 in the 6-element tumbling pass for Fairmont State.
The Falcons closed out the victory by outscoring ABU 93.26-89.95 in the team routine.
