FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Fairmont State grabbed a 37.50-35.10 lead after the compulsory event and never trailed on Saturday afternoon as the Falcons improved to 4-1 overall and 3-0 at home in a win over Converse College (269.580-264.630) at Joe Retton Arena.
 
Fairmont State used scores of 9.90 in compulsory toss and 9.65 in compulsory pyramid to grab a +2.40 advantage after the opening event.
 
Converse scored a 9.60 in all three acro heats to edge the Falcons in the event – the only event Fairmont State lost during the meet. Fairmont State answered in the pyramid heats with a score of 9.85 in heat two and a 9.75 in heat one, as the Falcons led 95.35-92.50 at the half.
 
Following halftime, Fairmont State scored an event-high 9.40 in heat one of toss to add 0.30 to its score with just two events remaining after edging the Valkyries in the event.
 
The tumbling event was also evenly contested; as Karah Naples turned in a score of 9.75 in the open pass to allow Fairmont State to narrowly edge Converse in the event by a 52.75-52.70 margin.
 
The Falcons closed out the victory by topping Converse in the team routine, 94.58-92.83. Fairmont State scored a 9.50 or better in eight heats during the meet, including a meet-high 9.90 in the compulsory toss heat.
 
Fairmont State will return to action on April 4 with a road meet at Davis & Elkins College. Start time is set for 7 p.m.
