FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Fairmont State jumped out to a 96.15-90.80 halftime lead and never looked back as the Falcons rolled on senior day at Joe Retton Arena.
With the victory, Fairmont State improves to 6-1 on the season and will now prepare for the NCATA Championships, which will take place from April 26-28 in Erie, Pa. GSC ends the regular season with a 3-3 overall record.
The Falcons started quick by recording a 9.80 in the compulsory pyramid and a perfect 10.0 in the compulsory toss. FSU took the compulsory event by a score of 37.75-34.80.
Fairmont State continued to roll in the second event, recording a 9.80 in the seven-element acro and a 9.75 in both the five- and six-element acro events. FSU also edged the Pioneers in the pyramid event, despite winning just one of the three heats (Inversion Pyramid, 9.75-9.05).
Following halftime, Glenville State won its only event of the day, edging the Falcons in the toss event by a score of 26.45-26.15. Glenville State won just four heats on the afternoon.
The tumbling event was also close, with Fairmont State ending the event with a 49.575-49.475 advantage. Freshman
Alexis Smith paced the Falcons in the tumbling event with a score of 9.025 in the 6-element pass. FSU closed out the victory with a 91.48 in the team event, compared to just 86.97 for the visiting Pioneers.
