SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Shepherd defeated Fairmont State on Saturday afternoon, 18-8, in the finale of their three-game weekend series at Fairfax Field.
Shepherd (26-15, 18-8 WVIAC) scored all 18 of its runs in the first six innings of the game.
The Rams had four players with three or more runs batted in for the game.
Second basemen Brandon Coffey led the way for Shepherd going, 2-for-4, with three runs and four RBI.
Fairmont State (18-22, 14-12 WVIAC) held the lead at, 6-5, entering the bottom of the third inning but Shepherd put six runs on the scoreboard to take the lead, 11-6. Aaron Scoville hit a three-run homerun to help the Rams take control.
Justin Byrd (2-2) earned the victory for the Rams after pitching 2.2 innings in relief, giving up just two hits and two earned runs.
Fairmont State starter Ryan Fenwick (4-6) lasted just 2.0 innings surrendering six hits and eight runs (seven earned).
FSU is back in action this Tuesday when they face Charleston for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
