RALIEGH, N.C. -- Fairmont State took both ends of a doubleheader over Shaw defeating the Bears 12-1 in game one and 13-3 in game two.
The wins improve FSU to a 7-8 overall. Shaw slips to 4-19 on the year.
In the first game, Fairmont State used a seven-run second inning and Chelsea Cobb gave up just one unearned run on five hits in a 12-1 victory. Abbey Wilson and Carly Mundie each hit two-run home runs and had three RBI for the game. Cobb, Kasey Mitchem, Holly Frampton added two hits apiece.
In game two, Rachel Colebank went 3-for-3 with three RBI to lead the Falcons to a 13-3 victory. Mundie hit another home run and drove in three and scored three times for FSU. Gretchen Herzberger added a three-run double for Fairmont State in the win.
Nikki Nuzum pitched all five innings giving up three runs (two earned) on three hits with eight strikeouts.
The Falcons will return to action this Friday when they play their first of five game in Salem, Va. The game will begin at 7 p.m. against IUP.
