SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. –
Fairmont State went 0-3 at the WVIAC/PSAC Crossover hosted by Shepherd
University over the weekend. On Friday, the Falcons lost in a pair of five-set
matches against Kutztown and Shippensburg. On Saturday afternoon, the Falcons
wrapped up play with a 3-1 loss to Slippery Rock.
Against Kutztown on Friday afternoon, the Falcons took set
one 25-18 before falling 22-25 in set two. The Falcons rebounded to take a 2-1
lead after a 25-21 advantage in set three, but Kutztown would put the Falcons
away by winning the final two sets 25-23 and 17-15. Bri Swann paced the Falcons
with 16 kills, while Leslie Giordon and Amber Wilson added 15 kills apiece.
Tabbie Bias tallied 65 assists and Tiff Smathers added 25 digs. Swann also
added 18 digs against Kutztown.
On Friday evening against Shippensburg, FSU rolled in the
first set with a 25-6 victory. Shippensburg took the next two sets with a 25-21
advantage in each. Fairmont State tied the match at 2-2 after taking set four,
27-25. However, Shippensburg proved to be too much as they took the final set,
15-5. Wilson led the way for FSU with 15 kills for the Falcons. Swann added 11 kills
and 18 digs. Bias distributed 33 assists and Smathers led the way with 25 digs.
On Saturday after against Slippery Rock, the Falcons fell
behind 2-0 after two sets. FSU would pick up a 25-14 victory in set three but
The Rock closed out the Falcons with a 25-22 victory in set four. Swann again
led the way with 16 kills. Giordon added 11 kills and Wilson added 10 against
Slippery Rock. Bias again led the way with 24 assists and Smathers tallied 20
digs.
The Falcons will return to action next Saturday with a pair
of matches at Joe Retton Arena. The Falcons will host Shepherd and Eastern Mennonite.
