PRINCETON, W.Va. -- Fairmont State senior defensive back Ryland Newman has been named WVIAC Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance against Bowie State.

Newman, a native of Ranson, W.Va., scored the sixth touchdown of his career by returning a blocked field goal 57 yards against the Bulldogs. He also recovered another blocked field goal earlier in the game. As a defensive back, Newman broke up two passes.

Shepherd quarterback Bobby Cooper was named the league's top offensive player, and Charleston's Jeff Green earned the defensive recognition.
