FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Fairmont State picked up its eighth-straight win and remained unbeaten in the WVIAC by defeating Charleston, 3-1, on Tuesday night at Joe Retton Arena.
Fairmont State improved to 14-5 overall and 4-0 in conference play. Charleston slipped to 8-11 overall and 3-2 in the WVIAC.
Fairmont State took the first two sets by scores of 25-18 and 26-24. Charleston rebounded for a 25-18 victory in set three. FSU trailed in fourth set 21-18, but the Falcons rattled off seven consecutive points to claim the set, 25-21, and the match.
Kaitlyn Witsaman matched her career-high with 16 kills to lead the Falcons. Leslie Giordon added 13 kills and four block assists. Bri Swann had a double-double with 12 kills and 12 digs for FSU. Tiff Smathers chipped in 10 digs and Jessica Margo tallied 48 assists for the Falcons.
Malleri Hardison led the Golden Eagles with 11 kills and Kaitlyn Farley added eight. Ashley Douglas led the way with 12 digs and Kelsey Eby had 25 assists. Brenna Youlton had seven blocks (one solo and six block assists) for UC.
The Falcons will return to action this Friday night when they host Ohio Valley at 6 p.m.
