WILSON, N.C. — Fairmont State (2-0) had a successful outing at Jeffries Field, securing victories over Barton (2-3) and West Chester University (0-1) on Friday. In their first game, the Falcons edged out Barton 2-1 before besting West Chester, 7-4.
Fairmont State 2, Barton 1
Haller allowed just three hits and struck out four batters in her first game of 2026. The scoring opened in the second inning when Fairmont State capitalized on the Bulldogs' defensive errors.
Jaylin McGill reached on a throwing error and advanced to third on a wild pitch before scoring on a fielding error, giving Fairmont State an early lead of 1-0.
Barton responded in the fourth inning with an RBI double from Chaleigh Cur, tying the game at 1-1. However, the Falcons regained the lead in the sixth inning. After a single by

Kensy Thomas advanced to second. McGill then delivered an RBI single to drive in Thomas, putting Fairmont State ahead 2-1. The final inning saw Barton unable to mount a comeback, as Fairmont State's defense held firm for a 2-1 victory.
Offensively, McGill contributed with one hit, one run, and one RBI, while also making three assists in the field. Foresha added one hit and drew a walk, and
Avery Townsend recorded one hit and one stolen base.
Fairmont State 7, West Chester 4
In the second game, Fairmont State defeated West Chester University 7-4, rallying with a four-run fifth inning and adding two insurance runs in the seventh. The Golden Rams initially took the lead with a solo home run by Mairead Hopkins in the first inning, followed by two more runs in the second inning.
The Falcons responded in the fourth when McGill scored on a single by Abbie Keilhoz, narrowing the gap to 3-1. The pivotal fifth inning saw Fairmont State's offense surge, starting with an RBI double from
Emma Paul, followed by an RBI single from Foresha. Keilhoz capped the inning with a two-RBI single, giving Fairmont State a 5-3 lead.
In the seventh inning, the Falcons extended their lead with two unearned runs when Keilhoz singled and advanced to third on a fielding error, allowing both Foresha and
Carly Crowder to score. West Chester managed one more run in the bottom of the seventh, but it was not enough to overcome Fairmont State's lead.
Caitlin Morey pitched 1 1/3 innings, allowing five hits, three earned runs, and one home run while striking out three batters.
Micah Wilson provided stability with three scoreless innings, giving up just two hits and no walks, securing the win.
Phoebe Rusnak contributed 2 2/3 innings of relief, allowing only one earned run on three hits, striking out two with just one walk.
Paul led the team offensively in the second game, recording three hits, including a double, while driving in one run and scoring once. Keilhoz had an outstanding game with three hits and four RBIs. Foresha also contributed with three hits, one of which was a double, along with one RBI and crossing the plate once.
Fairmont State continues its stay in Wilson, North Carolina on Saturday, February 14. The Falcons will face West Chester University at 9:30 a.m. before taking on Barton College at 2:30 p.m.
