Nunan Joins Lady Falcons For 2015-16 Season

FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Head coach Steve McDonald has announced the addition of Akron transfer Katie Nunan to the Fairmont State women's basketball program for the 2015-16 season.

The former standout at Fairmont Senior High School played her first three years of college basketball at the University of Akron after being a four-time first team all-conference selection and two-time all-state selection for the Polar Bears.

"We were very pleased that Katie was interested in returning home to wrap up her college basketball career and are very excited to add an excellent basketball player for next season, said McDonald. "Three years ago when we were recruiting Katie, we thought she would be a high-level basketball player and that feeling has not changed."

Nunan scored 1,040 points and averaged double figures in each of her four seasons at Fairmont Senior. She also averaged double figure rebounds in her final three seasons with the team and led FSHS to a 19-4 overall record and a sectional championship as a senior.

"Katie is our version of a one-and-done player that is coming to a team that will have no seniors next season," said McDonald. "Katie will be a player that we can count on to be a team leader during her senior season."

The 6-foot, post player played in 82 games during her three years at Akron, averaging nine minutes and 2.5 points per game. During the 2014-15 season, Nunan averaged a career-high 12.1 minutes and 3.8 points per game in 27 appearances for the Zips. The post scored a career-high 19 points in 25 minutes of action against Belmont back on Nov. 28 to lead Akron to a 73-58 win.

The Fairmont, W.Va. native will have one season of eligibility at Fairmont State.
