FSU, WJU Meet in Tonight's Atlantic Regional Final

The Matchup
- For the third time this season, Fairmont State and Wheeling Jesuit will battle, this time for the Atlantic Regional title and a chance to go to the 2017 NCAA Division II Elite Elite in Sioux Falls, S.D.
- The Falcons advances to the Atlantic Regional Championship Game by picking up double-digit wins over Bowie State (93-67) and No. 8 Indiana (PA) (84-68) over the weekend.
- Wheeling Jesuit knocked off third-seeded West Liberty in overtime (96-95) before taking down PSAC Champion Shippensburg in Sunday's semifinal (97-91) to set up tonight's all Mountain East Conference showdown for the regional championship.
- Fairmont State defeated then-No. 4 Wheeling Jesuit 95-92 back on Nov. 30 in overtime, before sweeping the season home-and-away with a 97-86 win over then-No. 16 ranked WJU on Feb. 1 in Fairmont. In total, the Falcons have won three of
- Jerrod Calhoun is 7-4 against Wheeling Jesuit in his five seasons on the FSU bench.
- Fairmont State also leads the all-time series with Fairmont State 79-38, in a series that began back in 1961.
- In addition to owning two wins over Wheeling Jesuit this season, the Falcons also picked up a 96-80 win over Findlay (OH) back on No. 15 in Fairmont. Findlay will meet Bellarmine in tonight's Midwest Regional Championship.
- The Falcons are looking to advance to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight for just the second time in program history. The Falcons advanced to the Elite Eight in 1997-98 under head coach Butch Haswell, before falling to Saint Rose 77-73 in the national quarterfinals.
- In total, FSU men's basketball has advanced to the national quarterfinals, semifinals or finals five times in program history. The Falcons were NAIA National runner-up in 1967-68, FSU advanced to the final four in 1964-65 and 1970-71 and went to the elite eight in 1974-75 and 1997-98.
- Fairmont State, the winner of 16 WVIAC Championships from 1947-1996, won its first regular season
conference championship in 21 years with a 95-80 win over Shepherd on senior night back on
Feb. 25.
- Win Saturday's win over Bowie State, Fairmont State recorded its fourth 30-win season in program history. Fairmont's last 30-win season was back in 1974-75 (31-6).
- With a win in tonight's regional championship game, FSU would also match a program-high for single-season wins with 32. FSU recorded a 32-3 record back in 1970-71, and a 32-4 mark back on 1964-65.
- FSU has extended its streak of being ranked in 30-consecutive NABC regular season polls, including 27 weeks in the top 10 in the country. The Falcons have also been ranked in the top five of the rankings for 13-straight poll releases.
- On Feb. 21, Fairmont State moved to No. 1 in the country for the first time since the final poll of the 1976 regular season when FSU was a member of NAIA. FSU dropped to No. 3 in the rankings after falling to WLU in the MEC Tournament Championship Game.
Fairmont State's Matt Bingaya has been named the Atlantic Region Player of the Year and headlines the 2016-17 Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) All-Atlantic Region Men's Basketball Team. Thomas Wimbush also garnered second team CCA All-Atlantic Region honors.

- The Falcons have won by double-figures in 25 games this season, including 13 victories by 20 points or more. FSU has also scored over 100 points in 11 games this season and has reached 90 points in 24 of 33 games.

- Trevor Andrews-Evans ranked 23rd in the country in blocked shots per game (2.03).
- Senior point guard Shammgod Wells currently ranks seventh in the country in steals per game (2.5), seventh in assists to turnover ratio (3.24) and 18th in assists per game (5.7).
