FSU Mourns Loss of Wally Hood, Former Head Football Coach

Wally Hood, Fairmont State's head football coach from 1984-91, passed away on Friday morning, April 28, 2017 at Salem Regional Medical Center in his hometown of Sebring, Ohio. Hood was 82 year's old.
 
During his tenure as head football coach at Fairmont State, Hood led the Falcons to a 42-35-4 overall record. Hood's success in Fairmont included the 1988 WVIAC Championship and an appearance in the NAIA National Playoffs that season.
 
Of the hundreds of football players Hood coached at Fairmont State, 32 earned first team All-Conference honors and 20 were All-American selections. Hood also coached 13 Academic All-Americans while in the FSU sideline.
 
Hood also served as president of the Ohio Athletic Conference Football Coaches, president of the West Virginia Conference Football Coaches and was appointed national president of the NAIA Football Coaches during his career in college football.
 
He was born on February 11, 1935 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late A. Nelson and Ella (Pease) Hood.
 
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Irma (Carlson) Hood, whom he married January 1, 1958 of Sebring; his three sons; Lee (Priscilla) Hood of Alliance, Jeff (Diane) Hood of Van Wert, Ohio and Jay (Renee) Hood of Green Castle, Indiana. He is also survived by a sister, Kristina Hood of LaBelle, Florida and his grandchildren, Natalie (Cody) LeMay, Jacob Hood, Kayla Hood, Bryce Hood and Blake Hood.
 
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
