Jacob Boone have been named Fairmont State's Athletes of the Week.
Riggs, a native of Bridgeport, W.Va., helped secure the doubleheader sweep of Alderson Broaddus on Friday night in Philippi after hitting a go-ahead two-RBI double in the seventh inning of the first contest.
Riggs went 5-10 at the plate in the two games with four RBIs and three runs. Riggs also had the go-ahead two-RBI double in the seventh inning in the first game victory over AB to make the score 13-11 at the time. Riggs registered a solo home run in the second contest of the doubleheader and has a batting average of .444 which is fifth in the MEC at the moment. Riggs is sixth in RBIs on the season (19) in the MEC and leads the Falcons in OPS (1.270), hits (24), doubles (5), triples (2), home runs (3), RBIs (19), total bases (42), and slugging percentage (.778).
Fairmont State Softball (6-10, 2-4 MEC) heads to South Euclid, Ohio tomorrow afternoon for a Mountain East Conference twin bill against Notre Dame College.
Boone, a freshman from Parkersburg, W.Va., joins Riggs as the Falcon Athletes of the Week for his 2-0 record against Salem University last Tuesday afternoon. Boone teamed up with
Kan Watanabe at the No. 1 doubles as the two freshmen earned a 6-1 set victory as Fairmont State earned the doubles point against the Tigers.
In his singles match, Boone dispatched his opponent from Salem in straight sets. 6-0, 6-2. On the year, Boone is 3-2 in the No. 6 singles position with wins over Ashland, Hanover, and Salem.
In doubles, Boone has a season record of 4-3 with two straight wins against competition with teammate Watanabe.
The Fairmont State men's tennis program is back on the courts tomorrow afternoon in Fairmont as the Falcons take on Frostburg State in their MEC opener.
