Falcons Capture Two Dual Victories in Season Opener

The Falcons defeated Washington & Jefferson and Pitt-Bradford on the first day of competition.

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Fairmont State (2-0) wrestling team opened the 2023 season with wins versus Washington & Jefferson (1-1) and Pitt-Bradford (0-2) on Wednesday (Nov. 1) night in Washington, Pa.

Fairmont State 27, W&J 16
Ryan Martin made his FSU debut with a win by major decision over Hunter Swedish in the 133-pound class. Trace Ragland pinned Jaizik Sanabria in 157 that tied the dual score at 10-10. Kolton Parsons added four points to the Falcons' score in 165 with a 17-4 win by major decision. Navid Ighani won by major decision 11-0 in the 174-pound weight class. Dwayne Johnson pinned Christian McChesney to put the Falcons ahead 24-16. Ethan Babay won by decision 6-1 in the final bout of the match to secure the 27-16 win for the Falcons.

Fairmont State 37, Pitt-Bradford 18
After a win by forfeit in 125, Nathan Pelesky earned a technical fall win in 133-pound class that made the score 11-0 in favor of the Falcons. Colton Stoneking followed with a technical fall in 141-pound weight class. Trace Ragland pinned his opponent in 149 to put the Falcons ahead 22-0. Parsons continued his strong night with another pin in the 157 match. After a trio of UPB wins, Johnson collected a win by forfeit in 197 and Babay defeated his opponent by decision to lock up a 37-18 win for FSU.

The Fairmont State wrestling team will compete in the Glenville State Tournament on Saturday (Nov. 4) beginning at 10 a.m.
