GLENVILLE, W.Va. -- The Fairmont State University wrestling team kicked off the 2024-25 season at the Glenville State Invitational.
Colton Stoneking (Unattached) led the way going 4-1 on the day finishing runner-up in the 141 weight class. Two Freshmen placed as well,
Tyler Wise (197) took 7th and
Aiden Pham (285) took 8th.
Stoneking started the day with a 13-6 win over Dylan Montgomery of Frostburg State. Stoneking rolled in back to back bonus point victories winning by tech fall and fall to move onto the semifinals against Caleb Brooks of Glenville State. Stoneking moved onto the Finals with a solid 4-2 win. In the finals Stoneking matched up with another Glenville State wrestler Gavin Quiocho who is currently ranked #1 in the country at 133 and was National Champion 2 years ago and a National Finalist last year. It was a back and forth battle that came down to overtime where Quiocho got the winning takedown in Sudden Victory.
Wise and Pham both collected 3 wins on the day to place in their collegiate debuts. Both Wise and Pham started their days with solid wins but then they both dropped their second matches. They battled on the backside to place.
Nate Pelesky (133),
Shane Hatfield (149) and
Makiya Powell (174) all went 2-2 on the day. Also picking up their first College wins yesterday were
Austin High (149) and
Jim Green (157).
Fairmont State is back in action on Thursday, November 7Â against new Mountain East Conference foe, Salem University. The dual meet is set to start at 7:00 p.m.
