Nassau, N.Y. -- Colton Stoneking led the way going 3-0 on the day en route to the Nassau Open Title. The Fairmont State Wrestling team also had five other placers overall.
Colton Stoneking started his day with back-to-back bonus point wins to advance to finals. In the finals he matched up with Joey Sparacio of Division I, Hofstra. Stoneking out scrambled him to a dominant 12-4 major decision win. Stoneking closes out his first semester 15-2 with two tournament titles and nationally ranked.
Nate Pelesky started his day with solid wins to advance to the semifinals. Unfortunately, he dropped his next two matches but hit a buzzer beater takedown to win his fifth-place match. Caleb Everhart dropped his first match of the day but secured back-to-back pins before losing in the consolation semis. Everhart rebounded and won his fifth-place bout by a major decision 9-0.
Makiya Powell dropped his first match but then rattled off three-straight bonus point wins to secure a third-place finish. Austin Gibson won his first match by fall to advance to the semifinals before losing and dropping to the consolations. Gibson responded by winning back-to-back matches by bonus points to secure a third-place finish. Aiden Pham won his first two matches of the day before losing in the Quarterfinals. Pham rattled off three-straight wins before falling in his third-place bout. It was the freshman's second time placing in a tournament this year.
The Fairmont State wrestling team now heads into Christmas Break with a 2-4 record and having multiple placers in each of the tournaments they competed in. They will be back in action on January 4, 2025 at the second annual Fairmont State Invitational.
