FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- The Fairmont State women earned a split in a double-dual as they outpaced PennWest-California 109-94, and ultimately fell to Shippensburg 106-95. The Falcon men also fell to Shippensburg by a score of 105-76. Additionally, Shippensburg bested PennWest-Califonia 124-77.
The win over PennWest-California represented the first win over the opponent in the 25-year history of the two institutions competing with one another.
Fairmont State's women were led by Delaney Householder, Mia Abruzzino, and Zoe Hoover, who picked up individual wins apiece and were each part of a winning 200 freestyle relay. Householder earned wins in the 200 freestyle (2:00.08) and 100 backstroke (1:00.39), while Abruzzino won the 1000 freestyle (11:17.02), and Hoover placed first in the 50 (25.41). The trio teamed up with Maitlyn Miller to win the final event of the meet, the 200 freestyle relay in a Mountain East Conference leading time of 1:41.42.
Additional key swims for the Falcon women include a strong second-place showing for Rachel Shryock in the 200 freestyle (2:03.50) and a second-place finish for Miller in the 50 freestyle (25.73). Hoover (55.89), Abruzzino (57.17), and Miller (57.39) finished second, third, and fourth respectively in a very competitive 100 freestyle event. Olivia Ridenour earned a third-place finish in the 100 breaststroke, as just 18 one-hundredths of a second separated first through third places.
On the men's side, Vlad Fedoseev picked up wins in the 50 freestyle (21.06) and the 100 butterfly (52.36). Also adding individual wins were George Ferguson in the 100 freestyle (49.11) and Grant Ridenour in the 200 individual medley (2:06.26). Fedoseev, Ferguson, and Ridenour teamed with Andres Masten to pick up a win in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:29.40.
The Falcons swim next at Frostburg State University on Friday, October 24. Start time is set for 5:00 p.m.
