GLENVILLE, W.Va. -- The Fairmont State University wrestling team opened the 2025-26 season at the Pioneer Open hosted by Glenville State University. The Falcons finished 10th overall with 46.5 points.
Fairmont State's performance was highlighted by podium finishes from
Tyler Wise and
Cooper Durst, who each placed sixth in their respective weight classes. Wise led the Falcons with 14 team points after earning a pair of early-round wins by fall and major decision before battling through the consolation bracket with two more victories. Durst added 12 points, starting his run with a first-period pin and securing five total wins, including a dominant 15-4 major decision and a 14-7 decision in the consolation semifinals.

In the lower weights,
Lucas Talley contributed 6 points at 133 lbs. with back-to-back pins to open his bracket, while
Trace Ragland and
James Simms each added 4 points behind strong early performances that included a fall and multiple decision wins.
Shane Hatfield also posted a solid showing at 149 lbs., collecting 5 points with a medical forfeit win and two additional victories in the consolation rounds.

Aiden Pham (2 pts., 184 lbs.) with a dominant 19-4 tech fall,
Jackson Pate (2.5 pts., 197 lbs.) with a lightning-fast 42-second pin, and
Tyler Carson (3 pts., 285 lbs.) who picked up a fall in the consolation bracket.
Fairmont State returns to the mat on Thursday, November 6 against Salem University. The match was originally scheduled to take place inside Joe Retton Arena but due to final stages of the floor repair, it will now take place in Salem, West Virginia. Start time is set for 6:00 p.m.
