Wrestling Captures Two Individual Titles at King Open

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The Fairmont State University wrestling team competed at the King Open hosted by King University. The Falcons took home a couple first-place finishes while also having other podium placements.

In the 133-weight class, Lucas Talley started the day with a 13-10 decision over Alexander Grabowski. In the quarterfinals, Talley secured a win with a pin over Nathan Gates at 1:53. Talley then faced his teammate in Austin Wood in the semifinals and won by technical fall, 16-1. In the championship bout, Talley pinned Gilbert Balbuena in just 46 seconds to win the title.

Colton Stoneking began his day at 141 with a technical fall over Omari Figueroa, 18-2. He then picked up a 7-1 decision over Jordan Weltzin to advance to the semifinals. In the next match, Stoneking was tested by Jamarius Koshko but pulled out the 1-0 decision. The championship match was a back-and-forth bout with Stoneking defeating Ashtan Hendricks by an 8-6 decision.

Jim Green brought home second-place in 157 as he recorded two falls before falling by an 8-4 decision. Cole Turner also finished second at 174 with a 2-1 record with wins via technical fall and decision.

Both Noah Hess and Trace Ragland tied for third at 133. Also at 133, Austin Wood brought home sixth. Earning fifth-place finishes were Jorden Williams (125), Colsen Spragg (125), Shane Hatfield (149) and Jake Stephenson (197). Jackson Pate wrestled at 197 and finished eighth.

Fairmont State will face Seton Hill University on Wednesday, November 19 from Thomas Jefferson High School in Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania. Start time is slated for 7:00 p.m.
