INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The Fairmont State University wrestling team wrapped up the 46th Annual Midwest Classic. The Falcons finished 25th out of 47 teams with
Colton Stoneking bringing home second place.
Colton Stoneking started his day against Caleb Chaves from Chadron State. After being tied at one, Stoneking registered a takedown with 18 seconds left in the first overtime for the 4-1 decision.Â
In the semifinals, Stoneking was pitted against Emmett Nelson from Wisconsin-Parkside. The senior from Waynesburg, Pennsylvania earned a 2-0 decision with points from escape and riding time. In the championship match, Stoneking faced a familiar foe in Ethan Hardy from Glenville State. After a back-and-forth first two periods, Stoneking got a take down at the 1:18 mark. However, an escape and a last-second takedown allowed Hardy to take the match, 5-4.
Jake Stephenson (197) finished the event with a 3-2 record while
Josh Woyan (174) and
Tyler Wise (285) both finished 2-2.Â
Fairmont State will take the holidays off before host the Fairmont State Open on Saturday, January 3. Start time is slated for 10:00 a.m.
