Janet Floyd, an Associate Professor in the Fairmont State University School of Business & Aviation, has been named Faculty Athletic Representative (FAR) for the University. Appointed by President Dr. Mirta M. Martin, Floyd will serve as a liaison between the institution's faculty and the athletics department. She is entering her second year as the FAR for the department of athletics.
Â
Floyd will advocate for student-athletes to help promote their success in the classroom, in athletics, and in the community by striking a balance among academic excellence, athletic competition and social growth as they prepare for lifelong success.
Â
Floyd is no stranger to the Falcon athletics department, having served as a tennis coach for both the men's and women's programs from 2006-13.
Â
"We are thrilled to welcomeÂ
Janet Floyd as Faculty Athletic Representative at Fairmont State," said Director of AthleticsÂ
Greg Bamberger. "After meeting with both Dr. Martin and Janet, I feel that her leadership and experience as a member of the university's faculty will prove to be very beneficial to the student-athlete experience we offer here at Fairmont State.
Â
"Janet also has experience as a collegiate head coach and will advocate for a balance between the academic and athletic needs for each of our student-athletes," Bamberger continued.
Â
Floyd began teaching at Fairmont State as an adjunct faculty member in August 1997, a role she held until August 2014 when she became an Instructor of Business Administration. She was elevated to Assistant Professor of Business Administration in August 2017, before earning another promotion in August 2020 to become an Associate Professor. In her role as a member of the business faculty, Floyd facilitates several classes on campus; includingÂ
Organizational Behavior, Principles of Management, Consumer Behavior, Employee Relations, and other business courses. She also provides academic and career assistance and guidance to over 30 advisees on campus.
Â
"I am truly honored to be the Faculty Athletic Representative at this University," said Floyd. "As a former coach, I loved helping student-athletes to be successful in the classroom and on the court. This position allows me to follow in that path.Â
Â
"It's also an exciting time to be a part of Fairmont State athletics under the direction of Athletics Director,Â
Greg Bamberger. Fairmont State has a rich history of strong academic performance from its student-athletes, and I look forward to being a part of that continued success," Floyd added.
Â
Floyd was named Fairmont State University's Adjunct Professor of the Year in 2012 and was honored by the School of Business as Adjunct Professor of the Year in 2012 and 2013. Under her guidance, her students also won the Bloomberg Businessweek Writing Award four times from 2015-2018.
Â
In her 23 years on the Fairmont State campus, Floyd has served on numerous boards and committees, including Academic Appeals Board, Textbook Selection Committee, School of Business Strategic Plan, Faculty Senate, the United Way Campaign, and was a task force member for both the School of Business Honor Code and Supply Management Certification. She also served as the BSBA Program (School of Business Leadership Team) Co-Coordinator from August 2018-August 2019.
Â
Floyd also served as Fairmont State's head women's tennis coach and associate men's coach from 2008-13. During her tenure leading the programs, Floyd organized and supervised practices, recruiting, match scheduling, team logistics, player development and tactical skills training. She also provided supervision over the men's coaching staff. Her women's tennis team earned All-Academic Team honors in 2011-12 after compiling a team grade-point average of 3.70.
Â
She started her coaching career as Assistant Women's Tennis Coach at Fairmont State from 2006 to 2008.
Â
Prior to arriving at Fairmont State, Floyd taught as an adjunct faculty member at West Virginia University from August 2002 through May 2012.
Â
