Michael Nyquist was named the Associate Athletic Director of Sports Medicine in July of 2023. Nyquist will oversee the Fairmont State Athletic training department.
Before arriving to Fairmont, Nyquist was the Coordinator of Clinical Services and Head Athletic Trainer/Instructor at fellow Mountain East Conference member, the University of Charleston. During his time at UC, Nyquist provided athletic training services to Golden Eagle student-athletes and was the primary ATC for football, men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s outdoor track & field and baseball teams. In addition to his athletic training responsibilities, Nyquist served as a faculty member in the University of Charleston Exercise Science department.

Before his role at Charleston, Nyquist was the Head Athletic Trainer at his alma mater, Lees-McRae College, in Banner Elk, N.C. Nyquist began his professional career as an Assistant Athletic Trainer with the Bobcats Athletic Training Office and worked primarily with the women’s soccer, women’s basketball, men’s & women’s track & field and women’s lacrosse teams. He spent a total of six years working in the Lees-McRae ATC office.

Nyquist earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology-Sports Medicine from Lees-McRae in 2003. He completed a Master of Arts in Physical Education-Sport Management from East Tennessee State in 2006. Nyquist holds a LAT & ATC certification.
