Falcons Close Out Lincoln, 86-78

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. -- Fairmont State closed out the University of Lincoln (Pa.), 86-78, on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action on the road to improve to 4-1 on the season.

Jamel Morris finished the game with 35 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals on the afternoon. Caleb Davis also reached double-figures in the game with 10 points and a team-high seven boards. Trent Elliott also chipped in 10 points off the bench for FSU.

Lincoln (3-4) was led by Chaz Sharp with 17 points while Alonzo Murphy chipped in 10 points and seven boards down low for the Lions.

The teams combined for 58 fouls in the game and both teams shot at least 36 free throw attampts in the contest. FSU went 9-of-19 from behind the arc and knocked down 31-of-36 free throws to wrap up the victory. Lincoln held a 42-38 advantage on the glass and scored 40 points in the paint.
 
Jamel Morris scored 16 points to help the Falcons build a 42-38 advantage at the break. Wil Martinez also chipped in seven points and Morgan went 2-for-2 from behind the arc in the half. The Falcons shot 41 percent from the floor, compared to just 33 percent for the Lions. However, Lincoln went 16-of-19 from the line on 17 Fairmont State fouls in the opening half.

The Falcons opened up an 18-6 lead at the 13:08 mark of the first half following a pair of threes from Chase Morgan and a layup by Morris on three-straight possessions. With FSU still holding a double-digit lead at the 5:52 mark following a pair of free throws by Trent Elliott, Lincoln scored seven-straight points to cut the FSU advantage to 31-27 less than 50 seconds later.

The Falcons pushed their lead back to nine on two occasions late in the half but the Lions answered with a 9-4 run over the final three minutes of the first half to send the game to the locker room with FSU holding just a 42-38 advantage.

The game remained close early in the second half with both teams trading baskets over the first eight minutes of the period. With FSU leading 60-57 at the 11:56 mark, Morris scored six-straight points, including four on the fast break after LU turnovers to grab a nine-point advantage at the mid-way point of the half.

The Falcons continued to hold a single-digit lead through the remainder of the game before wrapping up the 86-78 victory.
