GLENVILLE, W.Va. -- Fairmont State scored the final 14 points of the game to erase a 10-point deficit early in the fourth quarter and will be taking the bit back to Fairmont for another year. Copper Hibbs found
Brandon Ashenfelter over the center of the field for the 11-yard touchdown to provide the game-winning score in the 2015 edition of the "Battle for the Bit."
Hibbs totaled four touchdowns in the victory and completed 23-of-34 pass attempts for 228 yards to lead the FSU offense.
Austin White rolled up 170 yards on 19 carries, averaging 8.9 yards per carry in the game. White talled 120 of his yards on just 10 carries in the opening half of the game and also added four catches for 30 yards and a touchdown through the air.
Four different receivers caught a touchdown pass for the Falcons and
Fabian Guerra caught seven passes for 82 yards and the first fourth-quarter score to lead all FSU receivers.
Brandon Boyd also chipped in four receptions for 58 yards and a score.
The FSU offense totaled 406 yards of total offense in a balanced attack on the evening, recording 228 yards through the air and 178 yards on the ground. The Falcons also held a 2-1 advantage in forced turnovers in the victory. After recording 80 yards in penalties in the opening half, FSU limited its penalties to just two for 20 yards in the second half.
Defensively the Falcons were led by
Darius Lee with nine total tackles, a sack that resulted in a forced fumble and an interception.
Marcus Porter added seven total tackles for the Falcons and
Quincy Redmon chipped in five to go with a fumble recovery.
The FSU defense kept both of Glenville State's league-leading running backs in check on the evening as Tevin Drake totaled 41 total yards on 14 carries and Rahmann Lee carried the ball just nine times for 28 yards. Dante Roberts made the start at quarterback for the Pioneers and completed 18-of-29 passes for 193 yards and a pair of scores. Ralph Gordon led the Glenville receivers with five catches for 69 yards and a touchdown and Dante Absher chipped in three catches for 58 yards and a score.
Fitz Mofor led the Glenville State defense with eight total tackles and Earon Settles chipped in six to go along with a 36-yard interception return.
The Falcons wrapped their first winning season since 2011 with a 6-4 record during the 2015 season.
