FSU Downs Notre Dame College, 74-63

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- Fairmont State locked down Notre Dame College's leading scoring and held NDC to just 37 percent from the field to pick up a 74-63 road victory on Saturday afternoon at the Murphy Gymnasium.

The Falcons have now won five-straight and improve to 19-4 overall and 13-4 in the Mountain East Conference. NDC slips to 13-10 overall and 9-8 in the league.

FSU shot 53 percent from the floor and was led by Hailey Garrett with 20 points, six rebounds and five assists. Hallie Gunnoe also chipped in 16 points and six rebounds while Emily Lohr recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Emily Puskarich also filled the stat sheet for FSU with 11 points, five rebounds and four assists.

The FSU defense held NDC's leading scorer, Martha Nagbe, to just four points on 2-of-8 shooting and scored 18 points off 10 NDC turnovers in the win. FSU committed just eight turnovers of its own and committed only 11 fouls in the victory. Fairmont State also tallied six blocks.

Notre Dame was led by Kelsey Miller with a game-high 23 points and 10 rebounds to record a double-double. Lauren Langenderfer (13) and Hope Thorbahn (10) also reached double figures for NDC.

With the game tied at 47-47 at the 13:19 mark of the second half, Fairmont State went on a 13-2 run to grab a double-digit advantage with just over eight minutes remaining in the game. Lohr and Gabrielle Etter each hit threes during the run for the Falcons. Notre Dame College responded and cut the FSU advantage to as close as seven at the 4:45 mark after a jumper by Martha Nagbe. However, FSU held Notre Dame to just two field goals in the closing four and a half minutes of the game to wrap up a 74-63 victory.

The Falcons will return to Joe Retton Arena on Thursday evening for a 5:30 tip against Wheeling Jesuit.
