CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Fairmont State fell in the 2015 Mountain East Conference Championship Game against Glenville State, 65-58, on Sunday afternoon at the Charleston Civic Center.
With the loss, the Falcons fall to 21-10 overall and will wait to see if they are seeded in next week's Atlantic Regional Tournament. Glenville State improves to 22-10 on the season and should also received an at-large bid in next week's NCAA regional.
The Falcons were led by
Thomas Wimbush with 19 points and 10 rebounds in the loss.
Nick Harney chipped in 15 points and seven boards and
Jamel Morris scored 12 for the Falcons.
FSU shot just 39 percent from the field and were outrebounded by nine in the game. The Falcons were also cold from three-point range, making just 6-of-23 attempts (26.1%).
Glenville State got 21 points from Donte Morales, who was named the MEC Tournament MVP for his performance in this weekends tournament. Sedric Nady added 15 and Reggie Williams and Brett Morris each chipped in 10 for the Pioneers. Morris recorded a double-double by adding 11 rebounds to his 10 points.
With the game tied at 46-46 with 9:51 remaining, the Falcons suffered a 5:12 scoring drought and scored just three points in 6:11. During that span, Glenville pushed its lead out to 56-49 with just 3:28 remaining in the game. Morales capped the run with an open three from the corner.
Over the final 3:28, Wimbush scored seven points for the Falcons but Glenville State did not allow FSU to close the margin to less than five the rest of the game because of a solid performance from the free throw line.
Pat Moseh (Wheeling Jesuit), C.J. Hester (West Liberty), Wimbush, Harney, Morris, Sedric Nady and Williams join Morales on the MEC All-Tournament Team. Fairmont State's Wimbush earned the Commissioneer's Heart & Hussle award for the tournament.
