WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Fairmont State picked up a 3-0 victory over Winston-Salem State on Saturday morning before winning 3-1 against Chowan to take all three matches at the Spike Out Hunger Challenge over the weekend in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Fairmont State 3, Winston-Salem State 0 (25-15, 25-22, 25-19)Mackenzie Harrison led the Falcons against WSSU, recording 12 kills, six digs and a .360 attacking percentage.
Courtney Kress chipped in eight kills and a pair of blocks around the net for FSU.
Kaitlyn Witsaman led the FSU defense with a team-high eight digs to go along with five kills while fellow senior
Erin Harwood tallied six kills and six digs. Setter
Jessica Furda passed out 30 assists in the win.
Breanna Blot was once again strong around the net, recording three block assists and seven kills.
Fairmont State 3, Chowan 1 (25-21, 22-25, 25-17, 25-17)In the second match of the day, The Falcons were led by Witsaman with 12 kills in a four-set victory over Chowan. Blot continued her impressive weekend by driving home 10 kills to go along with a pair of digs and blocks in the Chowan match.
Harwood just missed a double-double with nine kills and nine digs and Harrison added seven kills and nine digs in Fairmont's third win of the weekend. Furda passed out 42 assists to go along with seven digs, three kills, two blocks and two aces in the victory.
The Falcons will now be idle until next Friday when they travel to California, Pa. for the Vulcan Invitational.
