INSTITUTE, W.Va. -- No. 3 Fairmont State held-off a late push by the home standing West Virginia State Yellow Jackets on Tuesday night at the Walker Convocation Center, wrapping up the 98-90 victory.

Following a Markee Masyck layup at the 2:49 mark of the second half that cut Fairmont State's lead to just three, 85-82, the Falcons got two key three-pointers from
Shammgod Wells and
Jamel Morris on back-to-back possessions and knocked-down 7-of-8 free throws in the final minute of the game to hold-off State and pick up the road victory. The Falcons led by as many as 15 in the opening half and held a double-digit advantage for much of the evening.

With the win, the nationally-ranked Falcons improved to 13-1 overall and 7-1 in the Mountain East Conference. State falls to 4-9 overall and 2-6 in the league.

The Falcons struggled from the field for most of the evening, shooting just 40 percent from the field (32-of-80), including a dismal 9-of-34 performance from behind the arc. State, on the otherhand, shot over 52 percent from the field to stay within striking distance throughout the night.

W.Va. State did turn the ball over 21 times, giving up 25 transition points in the loss. FSU also held a 44-41 rebounding advantage, including a 22-9 margin on the offensive glass.

Matt Bingaya led the Falcons in the victory with 26 points and five rebounds, scoring 10 points at the free-throw line. The Falcons also got 20 points from Morris and 11 points apiece from
Vonte Montgomery and Wells. Wells also finished with a team-high seven assists in the win.

Mazyck paced State with 23 points and Frank Webb chipped in 20 points, five rebounds and five assists. Terrance Jenkins (12) and Kenny Strong (11) also reached double figures. Jenkins narrowly missed a double-double by also pulling down nine rebounds and Tyler Thompson had a team-high six assists.

FSU will host Notre Dame College on Saturday afternoon at Joe Retton Arena, tip is set for 4 p.m.
