No. 2 Falcons Take Down Concord With Furious Rally

ATHENS, W.Va. -- No. 2 Fairmont State rallied from 11 points down with just 4:42 to play to steal an 88-87 win over Concord on Thursday night at the Carter Center.

Trailing 79-68 with 4:42 to go, Thomas Wimbush hit back-to-back threes and then made another jumper to get FSU back into contention. Jason Jolly, who forced overtime in the waning seconds last week against Shepherd, came up big once again making the game-winning layup with 12 seconds left. Concord had two opportunities in the final seconds to get the win, but the three-pointers didn't fall.

After struggling from behind the arc most of the night, the Falcons went 4-of-5 from three and missed just two field goals in the final 4:42 of the game. The Falcons struggled from both behind the arc (12-of-40) and from the free throw line (10-of-19) in the game.

With 42 seconds remaining, Matt Bingaya made a layup to give the Falcons their first lead since the 12:56 mark of the opening half.

Bingaya was 8-of-12 from the field and finished with 22 points for FSU (18-1, 12-1 MEC). Bingaya scored 19 of his 22 points in the second half. Wimbush also finished with 19 points and eight rebounds, while Jamel Morris chipped in 12. Jolly came off the bench to chip in 10 points in the win, including eight in the second half.

After shooting just 37 percent (13-of-35) from the field in the opening half, the Falcons improved to 51.3 percent (20-of-39) in the second half. FSU also did a better job controlling the ball in the second half, committing just two turnovers after totaling seven in the first half.

The Falcons also held a 47-34 rebounding margin in the come-from-behind win and outscored CU in the paint, 42-38.

Jametrius Wade and Michael Sanchez each had 17 points to lead Concord (13-6, 8-5 MEC). Terry Hopewell contributed 15 points and 13 rebounds.

Concord played nearly flawless in the opening half, shooting 53.1 percent (17-of-32) and committed no turnovers. For the game, Concord hit 10-of-23 from behind the arc and shot 50 percent from the field (31-of-62). Concord turned the ball over seven times in the second half.
