FSU Women Outlast Glenville State, 96-92

FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Fairmont State shot 52.8 percent from the field (38-of-72) and scored 40 points in the paint to take down previously unbeaten Glenville State, 96-92, on Monday evening inside Joe Retton Arena.
 
The Falcons (3-2, 1-1 MEC) also scored 14 points on the fast break and shared the ball on the offensive end with 22 assists on 38 made field goals.
 
Deidra Combs led the Falcons with a career-high 31 points to go with six rebounds, six assists and four steals. Combs dropped 12-of-18 field goal attempts on the evening. Amanda Ruffner also tied her career-high in the win with 27 points, also going 12-of-18 from the field. Gabrielle Etter (13) and Emily Puskarich (10) also reached double-figures for the Falcons. In addition, Makenzie White was well on her way to a triple-double with nine points, 13 rebounds and six assists on the evening.
 
The Pioneers (3-1, 1-1 MEC) shot just 38 percent from the field (32-of-83) on the evening, but made 18 three-pointers on the evening. GSC also held a 20-11 advantage in offensive rebounds.
 
Brittany Jackson led Glenville State with 20 points off the bench. The Pioneers also got 17 points from Julie Bishop, 16 from Paris McLeod and 11 from Tayan Stewart. Three of the four players in double figures for Glenville State came off the bench as the Pioneers got 62 or their 92 points from bench players.
 
The game was tied seven times and had six lead changes, as the largest lead by either team was just nine (FSU, 1st-04:33).
 
The Falcons will now take a few days off to spend time with their families for Thanksgiving, prior to returning to the court on Wednesday, Nov. 30 at Wheeling Jesuit. Tip is set for 5:30 p.m. against the Cardinals.
