FAIRMONT, W.Va. – Davis & Elkins outscored Fairmont State, 23-10, in the fourth quarter, closing out the Falcons in non-conference action 74-67 on Saturday afternoon at Joe Retton Arena.
With the loss, FSU slips to 4-4 on the season. Davis & Elkins improves to 7-1.
Following a jumper by
Amanda Ruffner at the 1:06 mark of the third quarter – giving the Falcons a 57-46 advantage – the Senators scored 11-straight points over the next 2:56 to tie the game at 57 apiece. Then over the final seven minutes of the game, Davis & Elkins outscored Fairmont State 17-10 to pick-up the 74-67 non-conference win over the Falcons.
The Senators shot a red-hot 69 percent from the field in the fourth quarter, compared to just 22 percent for the Falcons.
Fairmont State used a balanced offensive attack for three quarters, placing four players in double-figures.
Makenzie White led the Falcons with 16 points, six rebounds and eight assists. FSU also got 12 points from
Emily Puskarich and 10 apiece from
Amanda Ruffner and
Deidra Combs. Combs also pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.
The final stats were even, as D&E held just a three-percent shooting advantage over the Falcons (45-42 percent) and held a slim 39-34 advantage on the glass. The game was tied six times and had seven lead changes.
D&E was paced by Stephanie Wooten with 22 points, including five three-pointers. Jay Kilpatrick also chipped in nine points for the Senators.
The Falcons will now be idle until Saturday, Dec. 17 when Ohio Valley comes to town for a 2 p.m. tip.
