CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Notre Dame College upset fifth-ranked Fairmont State, 79-78, on Friday afternoon at the Charleston Civic Center in the quarterfinal round of the 2016 Mountain East Conference Championship, presented by GoMart.

With the loss, the Falcons fall to 25-4 and will now wait to see what they will be seeded in next week's regional tournament. Notre Dame College improves to 20-10 overall and will advance to tomorrow's semifinal round against No. 4 Wheeling Jesuit.

KT Taylor sank a pair of free throws with six seconds remaining in the game to clinch the upset win for Notre Dame. The game-winning free throws were setup by a pair of offensive rebounds that extended Notre Dame's final possession before Taylor drew the foul.

Fairmont State had 6.5 seconds for one final possession to get the win, but Jolly's layup attempt was blocked and NDC held on for the win.

Fairmont State gained two leads in the final 1:16 of the game, starting with a three-point play by
Matt Bingaya at the 1:16 mark. On the following NDC possession, Will Vorhees' shot was blocked but an offensive rebound and a put-back by Ryan Hickoff gave Notre Dame another one-point advantage.

With 31 seconds remaining,
Thomas Wimbush hit on a mid-range jumper to put FSU back in front, 78-77.

Notre Dame College jumped out to a nine-point lead at halftime by shooting 59.4 percent from the field and holding Fairmont to an 0-8 performance from behind the arc in the opening 20 minutes. Notre Dame also held a 16-2 advantage on the fast break in the opening half and got 13 points from Taylor and 10 from Tyree Gaiter.

Fairmont State did not make a three-pointer until the 15:16 mark of the second half and were limited to just five in the game, starting the game 0-10 from behind the arc.

Four players reached double-figures for the Falcons, led by Bingaya with 20 points and six rebounds. Fairmont State also got 14 points and nine rebounds from Wimbush, 11 points and five assists from Jolly and 10 points from
Jamel Morris.

Will Vorhees scored a team-high 21 points and pulled down eight rebounds to lead NDC. The Notre Dame Falcons also got 20 points apiece from Gaiter and Taylor. Gaiter became the all-time scoring leader in NDC history with 2,359 points. Gaiter also added eight assists in the win. Ja'Sean Lewis dominated the glass, pulling down 18 rebounds.
