BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. -- Fairmont State scored 16 runs in game four of its series with Urbana to split Sunday's doubleheader with the Blue Knights, 14-4, 16-1.
With Sunday's split, the Falcons are now 17-25 overall and 7-17 in the Mountain East Conference. Urbana goes to 17-23 overall and 11-13 in the league.
Austin Norman hit a solo home runs in each game to lead the Falcons at the plate on Sunday afternoon.
The Falcons totaled 18 hits and 16 runs in their game two victory, with six batters recording multiple hits in the win.
Josh Wine,
Austin Norman,
Jacob Whitmore and
Phil Longnecker each recorded three hits.
Adam Meekers and
Fraser Brown each added a pair of hits.
The game was tied at 1-1 until the bottom of the sixth when the Falcons scored 15 unanswered runs, including eight in the sixth, to run away with the lopsided victory.
Zac Burch (2-5) pitched a complete game to pick up the victory, striking out five and allowing just one run on five hits.
Urbana took a 3-0 series lead early in the day with a 14-4 win in game one of the day. The Falcons struggled most of the game, scoring its first run on a solo shot by Norman in the bottom of the sixth.
Tyler Krantz and
Scott Hessler also drove in runs in the sixth before
Sam Orr scored on a wild pitch to score the fourth run of the game for the Falcons.
The Falcons will return to the diamond next Saturday when West Liberty visits the Bridgeport Recreation Complex for a four-game series. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. on Saturday.
