SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Fairmont State used a strong hitting performance in game two on Monday evening to wrap up the 2016 regular season with a split with league-leading Shepherd.

The Falcons wrapped up the season with a 21-29 overall record and an 11-21 mark in the Mountain East Conference. FSU posted a 12-win improvement over the 2015 season under first-year head coach
Phil Caruso.

With Shepherd holding a 4-3 lead heading into the fifth inning,
Austin Norman blasted his 11
th home run of the year to tie the game. Jacob Whitemore broke the tie for good in the seventh on a single up the middle to score
Josh Wine. Later in the inning,
Nic Rush gave FSU a two-run cushion when he singled through the left side to bring home
Alex Levitan for the fifth FSU run of the day.

Phil Longnecker and Norman each drove doubles in the bottom of the eighth to score three more runs for the Falcons, giving Fairmont State six unanswered runs in the come-from-behind 11-6 victory.

Logan Johnson (6-4) wrapped up his college baseball career with a complete game victory, striking out four and holding Shepherd off the scoreboard for the final five innings of the game.

The Rams opened the day with a 12-6 victory to clinch the top seed in next week's MEC Tournament in Beckley.
