No. 20 WV Wesleyan Gets Past FSU, 1-0

FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Fairmont State dropped a 1-0 decision to No. 20 West Virginia Wesleyan on Tuesday evening at Duvall-Rosier Field in the Mountain East Conference opener for both teams.

Wesleyan's Audrey Barber scored a breakaway goal 35 seconds into the second half with an assist from Kelsey Sitka to provide the only goal of the game. Barber squeezed the goal into the bottom right corner of the FSU net.

The Bobcats held an 18-5 advantage in shots as Shawna Graham turned away four shots on goal to keep the Falcons in striking distance throughout the night.

Fairmont State had a golden opportunity to take a 1-0 lead into halftime during the 34th minute when Erica Uselton's shot grazed the crossbar and just missed the back of the net.

The Falcons also had an extended possession in front of Wesleyan's goal during the closing minutes of the game but were turned away by the Bobcat defense to seal the win for the visitors.

Abigail Pasierb and Maci Dungan also recorded shots on goal for the Falcons.

Barber's goal was one of six shots fired by the sophomore forward, three of which were saved by Graham.

The Falcons will return to action on Friday evening when Concord visits Duvall-Rosier Field at 7 p.m. for a conference matchup.
