Second-Ranked Falcons Handle Yellow Jackets, 105-78

FAIRMONT, W.Va. – Matt Bingaya piled up 39 points and 12 rebounds and Fairmont State dominated the paint in a lopsided 105-78 victory over West Virginia State on Tuesday night inside Joe Retton Arena.
 
Bingaya went 15-of-25 from the field, 8-of-11 from the free throw line and added five steals to lead the Falcons in his career-high scoring performance against Yellow Jackets. D'Ondre Stockman (17) and Thomas Wimbush (10) also reached double-figure scoring for the Falcons. Shammgod Wells led the FSU offense recording a game-high 10 assists and three steals.
 
Wells needs just 76 more assists and 10 steals to become the all-time leader in FSU history in both categories.
 
With the win, FSU improves to 14-0 on the season, including 8-0 in the Mountain East Conference. The Falcons' current 14-game winning streak is the longest for Fairmont State since the 1999-00 season.
 
The FSU pressure defense and press forced the Yellow Jackets into 22 turnovers on the evening, resulting in 25 points on the offensive end. The Falcons also held a 48-34 scoring advantage in the paint.
 
Brent Bauer scored a team-high 23 points to lead West Virginia State in the loss. Bauer was joined in double-figures by Jahlen Greene and Ernest Jenkins with 14 points apiece and Terrance Jenkins chipped in 11 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
 
FSU will now travel to Notre Dame College on Saturday at 4 p.m. to face-off with the 12-2 Falcons in South Euclid, Ohio. Saturday's matchup is a battle of the longest current winning streaks in the MEC.
