URBANA, Ohio – Second-ranked Fairmont State made quick work of Urbana on Monday evening in a dominating 104-75 road victory at the Grimes Center.
With the victory, Fairmont State improves to 16-0 overall and 10-0 in Mountain East Conference action. Urbana fell to an even 8-8 overall and 3-7 in the league.
Fairmont State shot 55.7 percent from the field (34-of-61), held a 42-23 rebounding margin and made 14 three-pointers in the victory.
Urbana on the other hand, shot just 43.9 percent from the field, including a dismal 27.3 percent in the opening half to allow FSU to open a 46-19 advantage at the half.
Thomas Wimbush had a game-high 24 points, seven rebounds and three assists in the victory to lead FSU, shooting 8-of-11 from the field and 3-of-6 from three.
Jason Jolly also chipped in 16 points and seven assists and
Matt Bingaya added 16 points, five rebounds and three steals. All 12 players that entered the game scored for the Falcons.
Trevor Andrews-Evans also had a big day blocking shots totaling five in the victory.
Urbana had four players reach double-figures, led by Jahmere Howze with 18 points. DeQuan Abrom (17), Dalton Payton (12) and Carlas Jackson (10) also reached double-figures for the Blue Knights.
Fairmont State scored 24 points off-turnovers and tallied 16 second-chance points in the victory. In addition, a combined 47 personal fouls were called and each team shot 30 free throws.
The Falcons built its largest lead of the day (40) at the 12:16 mark of the second half.
FSU will return to action on Thursday evening with a trip to Shepherdstown at 7:30 p.m. to battle the Rams of Shepherd.
