FAIRMONT, W.Va. – The second-ranked Fairmont State men's basketball team had seven players score in double-figures as the Falcons controlled UVa-Wise, 116-77, on Saturday evening inside Joe Retton Arena.
The Falcons shot a sizzling 59 percent from the field and drilled 17 three-pointers in the runaway victory over the Cavs. Seven different players made a three in the victory and each of the 12 players that checked into the game for FSU scored.
With the win, FSU becomes the first team in NCAA Division II to record 20 victories this season, improving to 20-0 overall and 14-0 in the Mountain East Conference. UVa-Wise falls to 5-15 overall and 3-11 in the league.
Andrew Emick (19) and
Ty Dobson (14) both shattered their individual career-highs in the victory. The Falcons also got 16 points and five boards from
Matt Bingaya, 14 points from
Jason Jolly, 12 from
D'Ondre Stockman and 10 apiece from
Troy Cantrell and
Shammgod Wells. No player played more than 21 minutes in the victory for FSU.
Wells once again led FSU in assists with seven and
Thomas Wimbush pulled down a team-best eight rebounds and recorded three steals.
Senior forward
Trevor Andrews-Evans also moved into sole possession of second place in school history with his two blocked shots in the win. Andrews-Evans now has 205 blocks in his FSU career.
The Fairmont State bench scored 72 points on the evening, trailing UVa-Wise's team total by just five points.
The Falcons will now prepare for its fourth battle of nationally-ranked teams on Wednesday evening, when No. 9 Wheeling Jesuit comes to town for a 7:30 p.m. MEC showdown. Wednesday's game will be a "White Out," as all fans are encouraged to wear white to cheer on the Falcons.
