ATHENS, W.Va. – Fairmont State used a balanced offensive attack to run past Concord, 70-54, on Thursday evening at the Carter Center in Athens.
The win snaps a two-skid and gets FSU back to .500 at 6-6 overall and 3-3 in the Mountain East Conference. Concord falls to 2-8 overall and 1-5 in league play.
Fairmont State shot 50 percent from the field in the second half to stretch its double-digit halftime lead (34-24) into a 16-point victory. The Falcons also held a slim 34-30 margin on the glass (including 13-6 on the offensive end) and drained eight three-pointers, compared to just three for the Mountain Lions.
Deidra Combs led the Falcons in scoring with 16 points, going 7-of-10 from the field and 2-of-2 from behind the arc.
Amanda Ruffner was right behind Combs with 15 points and a team-best six rebounds. Ruffner also swatted three blocked shots.
Emily Puskarich also added 13 points with a trio of three-pointers and
Makenzie White chipped in 12 points and a team-high five assists.
For the game, both teams shot just under 44 percent from the field.
Emily Boothe came off the bench to lead the Mountain Lions with 11 points, going 4-of-6 from the field. Alexis Lowery also reached double-figures with 10 points to go with four rebounds and four assists.
Concord turned the ball over 19 times in the loss.
FSU will return home to host the Golden Eagles of Charleston on Sunday afternoon. Tip is set for 2 p.m. inside Joe Retton Arena.
