FSU Volleyball Wins Two On The Road

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Fairmont State volleyball improved to 13-6 on the year with a pair of wins over the University of Charleston and West Virginia State over the weekend, pushing Fairmont's Mountain East Conference record to 5-2 and ending a five-game road stretch with four-consecutive victories.

Mackenzie Harrison, who led the Falcons with 18 kills on Friday against UC and 14 kills on Saturday at West Virginia State, moved into third in Fairmont State volleyball history with 1,693 career kills – passing former Academic All-American Bri Swann for third on the program's all-time kills list.

Harrison now needs 135 kills to move past Courtney Fochtman for second, and is just 238 kills from passing Natasha Ross to become Fairmont's all-time leader in the category.

Megan Clerico, who recorded 31 digs in the pair of three-set victories over the weekend, also moved into sole possession of seventh in FSU history with 1,442 digs as a three-year starter for the Falcons at Libero.

Jessica Furda also returned to the court over the weekend, splitting time with Alexa Gore at the setter position. Furda chipped in three assists on Friday at UC and 19 on Saturday at WVSU, and now needs just six more assists to move past Sarah Hall for fifth in program history.

In Friday's victory at WV State, Harrison finished the match with 18 kills and 15 digs. Julia Shemaitis also reached double-figures in the victory with 12 kills. Alexa Gore paced the FSU offense with a team-high 36 assists.

On Saturday in Institute, FSU had three players with double-digit kills – including Harrison (14), Morgan Poling (11) and Emma Mobley (10). Gore chipped in a team-high 20 assists against the Yellow Jackers, and Furda recorded a double-double with 19 assists and 15 digs.

FSU will now begin a stretch of four home matches, beginning Tuesday evening with a 7 p.m. match against Davis & Elkins College.
