FAIRMONT, W.Va. – No. 13 Edinboro opened up a 15-3 first quarter lead and proved to be too much for Fairmont State in an 86-50 victory on Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action at Joe Retton Arena.
Fairmont State managed just 23.8 percent from the field (15-of-63), including a dismal 17.6 percent from behind the arc (3-of-17). The Falcons were also outrebounded by 10 (51-41) and surrendered 19 points off 18 turnovers in the loss.
Michelle Jahn paced the Fighting Scots with 34 points on 11-of-17 shooting from the field. Jahn drained 5-of-8 three-point attempts and also pulled down seven boards in the Edinboro victory. Jontay Walton and Ciara Rosten also chipped in 10 points apiece for the Scots. Cheniya Sharpe finished just one point shy of a double-double with nine points and 15 rebounds.
Edinboro shot 40.3 percent from the field (27-of-67) with nine three-pointers in the win.
Sierra Kotchman and Ozge Yarga each scored a team-high 10 points on the afternoon for the Falcons. Yarga also pulled down a team-high eight boards.
The Falcons will now break for Christmas, before returning to action on Thursday, Jan. 4 with an MEC matchup against UVa-Wise. Tip is set for 5:30 p.m.
