FAIRMONT, W.Va. – Notre Dame College outscored Fairmont State by 11 in the fourth quarter to come away with a 75-64 victory on Saturday afternoon inside Joe Retton Arena. The score was tied at 45-45 entering the fourth quarter as NDC overcame nine ties and nine lead changes to pick up the win.
Amanda Ruffner turned in another standout performance for the Falcons (14-10, 11-7 MEC), scoring 26 points on 10-of-15 shooting from the field. The Falcons also got 17 points and six rebounds from
Makenzie White and 11 points and six assists from
Emily Puskarich. Despite struggling from the field (1-10),
Deidra Combs pulled down a team-high nine rebounds and tallied five steals for the Falcons.
Fairmont shot 33.3 percent from the field (23-of-69) and knocked down just 5-of-23 three-point attempts on the afternoon (21.7%). FSU was also outrebounded 49-32 and got outscored 44-32 in the paint.
Defensively, Fairmont forced 10 more turnovers than Notre Dame (25-15).
Kelsey Miller and Kim Cook each recorded double-double performances for Notre Dame (11-12, 10-8 MEC). Miller dropped in a game-high 31 points to go along with 11 rebounds and three assists. Cook added 15 points, 10 rebounds and five assists and Terrina Robinson added 10 points for the visiting Falcons.
Notre Dame shot 49 percent from the floor, but hit just five three-pointers on the afternoon.
Fairmont State held a double-digit advantage (32-22) at the 2:06 mark of the second quarter, before Notre Dame closed the half on a 9-0 run to cut Fairmont's halftime advantage to just a single point (32-31).
Fairmont State will now begin a three-game road trip, starting with West Virginia State next Thursday in Institute. Tip is set for 5:30 p.m.
