FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Fifth-ranked Fairmont State pummeled Urbana on Thursday evening, dropping 127 points in a 42-point victory (127-85) over the visiting Blue Knights at Joe Retton Arena.
The Falcons (22-1, 16-1 MEC) shot 52.9 percent from the field and had six players reach double-figures in the victory. Urbana shot 46 percent from the field (30-of-65), but struggled from behind the arc in the loss (6-of-24).
FSU also forced a season-high 30 turnovers on the evening, scoring 34 points off turnovers.
Matt Bingaya snagged the opening tip from Trevor Andrew-Evans and put the Falcons in front just four second into the game on a layup and continued to cause problems for the Blue Knights for most of the evening, particular in the second half with 17 of his team-high 21 points.
D'Ondre Stockman and
Jason Jolly each hit five three-pointers for the Falcons, adding 19 and 18 points, respectively, in the victory.
The Falcons also got 13 points apiece from
Vonte Montgomery and
Troy Cantrell and 10 points and nine assists from
Shammgod Wells. Cantrell's 13-point scoring performance is a new career-high for the sophomore, who also added six rebounds.
FSU dominated in all aspects of the game, scoring 52 points in the paint, hitting 17 three-pointers and dropping-in 29 second-chance points in the victory. The Falcons also scored 66 bench points in the win.
DeQuan Abrom led Urbana (10-13, 5-12 MEC) with 18 points and six rebounds in the loss. Jahmere Howze also reached double-figures with 13.
The Falcons will remain at home to host Notre Dame College on Saturday afternoon inside Joe Retton Arena. Tip is set for 4 p.m.
Note: Fairmont's win, paired with West Liberty's 107-104 loss at Concord, puts the Falcons back in sole possession of first-place in the MEC standings.
