BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. -- Fairmont State's four-game win streak came to an end Tuesday evening as the Falcons suffered a 10-6 setback to Alderson Broaddus at the Bridgeport Recreation Complex.
Â
The Falcons, who came into the game with an 18-15 overall record (10-6 MEC), dropped the non-conference game against the Battlers in the two team's first and only matchup of the season.
Â
Fairmont got off to a strong start when sophomore first-baseman
Brooks Carr hit a grand-slam in the first inning, putting the Falcons up 4-0.
Â
However, the Battlers responded in the top of the second, hitting a three-RBI double down the left field line to cut the Fairmont lead to just one (4-3).
Â
After a scoreless third inning by both teams, Alderson Broaddus took the lead in the fourth - driving in three runs to take a 6-4 advantage.
Â
Trailing by two in the fifth inning, Fairmont tied the game at six runs apiece (6-6) when a fielding error by the A-B allowed
Ben Myers to cross home plate.
Ted Sova also stole home later in the inning.
Â
Alderson Broaddus regained the lead for good in the sixth inning, this time with a four-run top of the inning that included a two-run home run.
Â
Alderson Broaddus wrapped up the 10-6 win in the bottom of the eighth inning following a rain delay and eventual calling of the game due to rain and lightning. ABU threw on pitch in the bottom of the eighth following a 30 minute rain delay before lightning resumed, causing the game to be called.
Â
Sova was impressive at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two runs scored. Carr's grand slam accounted for all four of the Falcon's RBIs in the game.
