Falcons Roll In Game Two, Earn Split at Concord

ATHENS, W.Va. -- Fairmont State rolled early in game two on Friday afternoon to earn a split at Concord in Mountain East Conference softball action.

Fairmont State scored five runs in the first two innings of game two and went on to defeat the Mountain Lions 7-2. Concord opened the day by edging the Falcons 7-6 in a back-and-fourth opener to the doubleheader.

Beth Cook and Samantha Hoban both drove in two runs and went 2-for-4 in the FSU victory in game two. Fairmont's Whitley Mongan provided the only extra-base hit in the game, a double.

Hannah Absalom (5-9) pitched a complete game to earn the win on the mound, striking out four batters and allowing just two runs on the afternoon.

Ten base runners reached for the Falcons in game two, seven of which crossed home plate to put up runs for FSU. The Falcons recorded seven hits and were walked three times.

With FSU trailing 7-3 in game one earlier in the day, Addie Fullen hammered a three-run home run in the top of the seventh to pull the Falcons within one run at 7-6. However, the Mountain Lions recorded the final out during the next at-bat to edge the Falcons to open the day.

Cook once again had a big game at the plate in game one, going 2-of-3 with an RBI and run scored. Jenny Stubbs and Fullen also recorded multiple hits in game one.

The Falcons will now travel to UVa-Wise for another southern MEC doubleheader to wrap up the weekend. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. Saturday.
