WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. -- Fairmont State opened the MEC/PSAC Challenge at West Liberty University with a 3-0 victory (25-19, 27-25, 25-15) over Slippery Rock and a 3-1 win over Pitt-Johnstown on Friday at the ASRC.

With the sweep of day one of the cross-conference play, the Falcons push their record to 7-2 on the season – winning seven-straight matches.

In the first match of the day, FSU got 13 kills from
Julia Shemaitis and 12 from
Mackenzie Harrison as the Falcons rolled to a straight-set victory. Freshman
Taylor Wisniewski also chipped in nine kills in the match.

FSU outhit the Rock (.215-.123) and had 11 more kills in the first match of the day.

Harrison (24 kills, 19 digs) and Shemaitis (17 kills, 13 digs) once again led the Falcons in their 3-1 win (27-25, 25-16, 20-25, 25-23) over Pitt-Johnstown in the second match of the day for FSU.

Fairmont State held a 7-5 advantage in blocks and 9-6 advantage in aces against UPJ.
Morgan Poling and
Emma Mobley each recorded four total blocks to lead the Falcons around the net in the nightcap.

Jessica Furda guided the FSU offense on day one with 43 assists against Slippery Rock and 54 vs. UPJ.
Megan Clerico paced the defense for FSU with 22 digs vs. SRU and 29 in the evening match against Pitt-Johnstown.

The Falcons will now prepare for a 1:30 p.m. showdown with Clarion on Saturday afternoon at the ASRC. FSU will wrap up play at 4 p.m. with a match against Shippensburg.
