FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- The Fairmont State defense forced five turnovers and held the University of Virginia's College at Wise out of the endzone, as the Falcons rolled to a 34-6 Homecoming victory on Saturday afternoon at Duvall-Rosier Field.

With the victory, Fairmont State improves to 4-1 overall, including an unbeaten 4-0 mark in Mountain East Conference play. UVa-Wise falls to 3-2 both overall and in the league.

The FSU defense totaled four interceptions for 110 return yards, and
Quincy Redmon returned a fumble recovery 96 yards for a score – giving the Falcons 206 total return yards in the victory. The UVa-Wise offense was also limited to just 193 total yards of offense and quarterback Jarome Jackson was pressured into five sacks.

With the Cavaliers poised to take the lead at the FSU four-yard line,
Marcus Porter and Redmon broke though the UVa-Wise offense line and forced Jackson into a fumble that was recovered and returned 96 yards for a score by Redmon. Following the missed extra point, FSU took a 13-6 advantage into the locker room at the half.

On UVa-Wise's first possession of the second half, Jackson was picked off by
Antonio Harris near midfield and the junior took off down the sideline before being ran down just short of the goal line at the UVa-Wise eight-yard line. On the next play,
JuJuan Young-Battle found
Jeff Iweh in the back of the endzone to stretch the FSU lead to 20-6.

Jackson was picked off for the third time with just over a minute remaining in the third quarter by Fairmont's
Demonne Cox – giving FSU possession of the ball at the WISE 3. Two plays later, Young-Battle found
Laurence King for a three-yard touchdown reception.

Antonio Harris picked off his second pass of the day on the first UVa-Wise possession of the fourth quarter, this time the junior retuned the interception 44 yards to set the Falcon offense up at the UVa-Wise 39. On the next five plays,
Rakeem Darden carried the ball on each play for 39 yards and finished off the drive with a one-yard plunge into the endzone - making the final score 34-6.

In addition to Cox and Harris,
Jerry Iweh also picked off a pass for the FSU defense in the second quarter.

Young-Battle completed 7-of-16 passes for 100 yards and two touchdowns in the victory.
Andre Hall finished the afternoon with two receptions for 29 yards.

Rakeem Darden led the FSU ground attack with nine carries for 73 yards and a score – 39 of which came on one possession in the fourth quarter.

Michael Porter,
Trevon Shorts and Redmon each recorded five tackles to lead the Falcons.

Johnson completed 14-of-29 passes for 126 yards on the afternoon for the Cavs, getting sacked five times and was intercepted four times. Johnson also recorded a team-high 46 yards on the ground.

UVa-Wise's Chris Thaxton led all receivers in the game with six catches for 42 yards.

The Cavalier defense was led by a game-high eight tackles from Dylan Giovine.

Fairmont State will now prepare for a showdown with Notre Dame College next Saturday in South Euclid. Kickoff is set for 12 noon. NDC improved to 4-1 on the year with a 24-19 win on Thursday evening at West Liberty.
