FAIRMONT, W.Va. – Fairmont State stretched its current winning-streak to seven games and won its 32
nd-consecutive home game on Saturday afternoon with an 81-66 victory over Shepherd in Mountain East Conference action at Joe Retton Arena.
The win is also the 11
th-consecutive for the Falcons over Shepherd, dating back to the 2012-13 season. Fairmont State is now 14-4 overall and 10-2 in MEC play, which is tied for second in the league with Wheeling Jesuit – Fairmont's next opponent (Wednesday, 7:30 p.m.).
Despite struggling from behind the arc (6-of-25), the Falcons dominated the paint with a 38-28 rebounding edge and a 50-30 advantage in points in the paint. Fairmont State also had 14 second-chance points and 14 points on the fast break.
Fairmont State used a balanced offensive attack, getting 17 points and eight rebounds from
Caleb Davis, 16 points from
D'Ondre Stockman and 11 apiece from
Jason Jolly and
Andrew Emrick.
Vonte Montgomery also chipped in 10 to round out the Fairmont State players in double figures.
Shepherd (11-7, 7-5 MEC) got a team-high 17 points from Thomas Lang on 6-of-9 shooting. Derek McKnight also reached double-figures with 14. Shepherd shot 44.6 percent from the field (25-of-56), despite struggled from behind the arc – going just 3-of-21 (14.3%).
FSU will return to action on Wednesday evening with a road game at No, 16 Wheeling Jesuit. Tip is set for 7:30 p.m.
