WHEELING, W.Va. -- Fairmont State rallied from a 10-point halftime deficit to top Wheeling Jesuit, 64-59, on Wednesday evening at the McDonough Center in Wheeling.

The Falcons, who trailed 37-27 at the half, took the lead for the first time in the second half with just 52.1 seconds remaining following a 3-pointer by
Sierra Kotchman.

With the win, Fairmont State improves to 3-5 overall and 2-3 in Mountain East Conference action. WJU slips to 3-6 overall and 1-4 in league play.

After Fairmont State took the lead, the Falcons made three defensive stops in the final minute of the game, including a pair of steals by
Ozge Yarga to help the Falcons hold on for the come-from-behind win.

Before Fairmont State took the lead with 52.1 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, Wheeling Jesuit had held the lead since the 4:38 mark of the opening quarter when the Falcons led 11-9.

Kotchman paced the Falcons on offense with 22 points, three rebounds and three assists. Kotchman drained five 3-pointers in the victory.
Rachel Laskody also reached double-figures for the Falcons with 14 points and a team-high eight rebounds on 6-of-9 shooting from the field.
Brooke Kurucz and
Kamrin Weimer each chipped in nine points apiece for the Falcons.

The Falcons shot 36.5 percent from the field in the win, including 48 percent in the final 20 minutes of play. The Falcons were also 10-of-30 from behind the arc. WJU shot just 33.9 percent from the field in the setback, including just 28.6 percent in the second half.

Fairmont State forced 17 Wheeling Jesuit turnovers and turned them into 14 points on the offensive end, nine of which came in the second half.

Chenelle Moore had a strong performance for the Cardinals with a career-high 24 points and 25 rebounds. Moore had 14 offensive rebounds for the Cardinals. Kelsi Chapman also reached double-figure for the Cardinals with 11.

Fairmont State will now prepare for an MEC showdown with West Liberty on Sunday afternoon inside Joe Retton Arena. Tip is set for 2 p.m.
